World Zoonoses Day- July 6:

  • World Zoonoses Day is celebrated every year on July 6. It commemorates the French biologist Louis Pasteur, who in 1885, successfully administered the first vaccine against Rabies, a zoonotic disease. Zoonoses are diseases which can be transmitted from animals to humans.

  • Electronics & IT Ministry in partnership with Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog has launched a Digital India Aatmanirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge to build a strong ecosystem of Indian app. Government will adopt suitable apps, list on Govt e-Marketplace.

 

Odisha Government Announces Balaram Scheme to Empower Over Seven Lakh Landless Farmers:

  • The Odisha government has launched a scheme ‘Balaram’ to provide agricultural credit of Rs 1,040 crore to landless farmers, who are facing hardships due to the coronavirus outbreak,
  • The decision in this regard was taken at a high-level meeting presided over by chief secretary A K Tripathy The scheme was designed in collaboration with the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).

UT Ladakh Administration launches Ladakh Food Security Scheme:

  • The Administration of UT of Ladakh launched the Ladakh Food Security Scheme (LFSS), with effect from July 1. Under this scheme, the rationees shall be provided 5kg of food grains per person.
  • The Union Territory of Ladakh’s Administration has commenced the Ladakh Food Security Yojana (LFSS) and on ther hand, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Food Entitlement Scheme (MMSFES) J&K has been stopped.

 

Delhi Government launches e-portal for schoolchildren:

  • Education Minister Manish Sisodia launched an e-learning portal – LEAD (Learning through E-Resources Made Accessible for Delhi) developed by the Delhi government that contains 10,000 instructional materials and course content for Classes I to XII.

Global Tourism Set To Lose $1.2 Trillion Due To Coronavirus: UNCTAD:

  • The world’s tourism sector could lose at least 2 trillion dollars or 1.5 per cent of the global Gross Domestic Product (GDP) having been placed at a standstill for nearly four months due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to a new report by UNCTAD.
  • The UN’s trade and development body warned that the loss could rise to 2 trillion dollars or 2.8 per cent of the world’s GDP if the break in international tourism lasts for eight months, in line with the expected decline in tourism as projected by the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

  • A United Nations-led report found India is the third-largest contributor to e-waste in the world in 2019. As per the report titled ‘Global E-waste Monitor 2020’, the world dumped 53.6 million tonnes of e-waste in 2019.
