Union Ministry of Jal Shakti allocates Rs. 3,183 crores to Andhra Pradesh under Jal Jeevan Mission in 2021–22

  • Union Ministry of Jal Shakti has increased the grant to 3,183 crores from Rs. 790.48 crores to Andhra Pradesh under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in 2021–22.
  • The Union Government has assured full assistance to Andhra Pradesh for making provision of tap water supply in every rural home by 2024.

Madhya Pradesh Government launches ‘Yuva Shakti Corona Mukti Abhiyan’

  • Madhya Pradesh Government has launched the ‘Yuva Shakti Corona Mukti Abhiyan’ to make people aware of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The campaign will be run by the Madhya Pradesh Higher Education and Technical Education Department in association with Public Health and Family Welfare Department.

The United Kingdom hosts the 47th G7 Summit 2021

  • The United Kingdom was hosted the 47th G7 Leaders’ Summit 2021 in Carbis Bay and Cornwall. The G7 Summit was held under the theme of ‘Building Back Better’.
  • Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) consisting of Germany, Italy, France, the UK, Japan, the US and Canada along with EU representatives and leaders from guest countries including Australia, India, South Africa and South Korea attended the annual summit to focus on global issues and policies.

Navi General Insurance launches EMI based health insurance in Kerala

  • Navi General Insurance has introduced subscription-based health insurance in Kerala through monthly Equated Monthly Installments (EMIs) instead of paying an upfront annual premium.
  • The health insurance policies can be purchased using EMIs starting as low as 240 per month.
  • Navi General Insurance is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sachin Bansal-led Navi Technologies.

European Space Agency’s ‘EnVision mission’ to visit Venus in 2030

  • European Space Agency (ESA) has selected EnVision mission as its next orbiter that will visit Venus in 2030.
  • NASA selected two missions DAVINCI+ and VERITAS, to the planet Venus (Earth’s nearest neighbour). The two missions were selected based on their potential for scientific value and the feasibility of their development plans.
  • NASA is expected to allot $500 million to each of these missions that will launch between 2028–2030.

IIT Mandi researchers crack code of excess sugar intake causing fatty liver disease

  • A team of researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi has unravelled the molecular mechanism by which excess sugar consumption causes fatty liver disease.
  • According to the team, the research will prompt the public to reduce sugar intake to stop non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in its early stages.

IIT Ropar develops India’s first power-free CPAP device ‘Jivan Vayu’

  • Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar has developed India’s first power-free continuous positive airway pressure therapy (CPAP) device named ‘Jivan Vayu’.

Former SC judge Arjan Kumar Sikri was appointed as the Chairperson of the grievance redressal body

  • The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) announced that former Supreme Court judge Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri was appointed as the Chairperson of the Grievance Redressal Board of the recently formed Digital Publisher Content Grievances Council (DPCGC).
  • The Grievance Redressal Board (GRB) will deal with roar grievances referring to the Council members’ video on-line streaming merchandise and corporations.

Vineeta Bal and Krishna Mohan was selected to CEPI’s Scientific Advisory Committee

  • Immunologist Vineeta Bal and Bharat Biotech Executive Director Krishna Mohan have been selected to the Scientific Advisory Committee at the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) for three years (2021–2024).
  • CEPI is an international partnership that brings together public, private, philanthropic and civil organisations.

Bharti Airtel’s Ajai Puri was re-elected as the Chairman of COAI for 2021–22

  • Chief Operating Officer of Bharti Airtel, Ajai Puri, was re-elected as the Chairman of the Cellular Operators’ Association of India (COAI) for 2021–22.
  • President of Reliance Jio Infocomm Pramod Kumar Mittal will continue as Vice-Chairman of the COAI.

  • According to World Giving Index 2021 report released by Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), India became the 14th most charitable country across the world. This index was topped by Indonesia and followed by Kenya.

Asiad medallist and Olympics marathon runner Surat Singh Mathur passed away at 90

  • Former Indian athlete Surat Singh Mathur passed away at the age of 90. He won the bronze medal (Marathon) in the 1951 Asian Games. He also participated in the 1952 Summer Olympics.

National award-winning actor Sanchari Vijay passed away at 38

  • Kannada actor Sanchari Vijay passed away at the age of 38. He made his debut with the film Rangappa Hogbitna in 2011. He received the National Film Award for Naanu Avanalla Avalu in 2015.

Mahavir Chakra recipient Brig Raghubir Singh Rajawat passed away at 98

  • Mahavir Chakra recipient Brig Raghubir Singh Rajawat passed away at the age of 98. He was decorated with the Maha Vir Chakra (MVC) for gallantry in the 1965 Indo-Pak war.
