  • Union Minister of Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has launched the ‘Sujalam 2.0’ campaign for greywater management in New Delhi. Over six lakh villages will see intense activity on solid and liquid waste management.
  • The theme for Sujalam 2.0 campaign 2022 is ‘Groundwater: making the invisible visible’.

  • The seventy-third annual National Conference of Indian Psychiatric Society (ANCIPS) was held in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The main focus areas of this conference were on drug and alcohol abuse in society, stress among students and growing incidence of suicides, depression and anxiety, old-age problems and dementia.

World Bank issues the world’s first wildlife conservation bond to save black rhinos in South Africa

  • The World Bank (International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, IBRD) has issued the Wildlife Conservation Bond (WCB) to support South Africa’s efforts to conserve endangered species of Black Rhino.
  • This wildlife conservation bond is also known as ‘Rhino Bond’. It is a five-year Sustainable Development Bond worth $ 150 million.
  • This bond will contribute to protecting and increasing black rhino populations in two protected areas in South Africa namely the Addo Elephant National Park (AENP) and the Great Fish River Nature Reserve (GFRNR).

Malaysia is set to host the four nations military exercise ‘Bersama Shield 2022’

  • Malaysia is set to host the armed forces from Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and the United Kingdom in the annual ‘Bersama Shield 2022’ training exercise from 01 April 2022.
  • This exercise will involve the sea and air drills in part of Malaysia’s exclusive economic zone in the South China Sea. This exercise referred to as BS22 is conducted within the framework of the Five Power Defense Arrangements (FPDA).

FinMapp gets the licence from PFRDA and IRDAI to sell National Pension Scheme and insurance

  • Financial services company, FinMapp has received licence from Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) under the National Pension Scheme (NPS).
  • FinMapp also acquired a registration certificate from the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) recognising it as a corporate agent.
  • These licenses will aid FinMapp in selling insurance and NPS products to its customers as a verified seller and help expand its customer base.

ICICI Bank partners with Chennai Super Kings for co-branded credit card

  • ICICI Bank has partnered with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to launch a co-branded credit card Chennai Super Kings ICICI Bank Credit Card’.
  • This credit card was designed with a range of privileges including joining and renewal gifts of 2000 reward points that can be redeemed against CSK merchandise.
  • It also offers complimentary tickets to CSK matches during the playing season. Credit card users will also get an opportunity to attend a practice session.

 

IIM Ahmedabad has partners with Flipkart to set up a retail tech consortium

  • The Centre for Digital Transformation at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Ahmedabad has set up a retail tech consortium and plans to collaborate with several retail and technology organisations in India.
  • Flipkart has joined as a principal partner for the inaugural year of the consortium, bringing to the table its industry knowledge, experience and consumer insights into the internet ecosystem.

  • ICICI Lombard General Insurance has partnered with Airtel Payments Bank for smartphone insurance. Airtel Payments Bank customers can now buy smartphone insurance from ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company on the Airtel Thanks app.
  • With this, Airtel Payments Bank has further strengthened its insurance offering available on its digital platform. Customers can now buy insurance through a fast, paperless and secure digital process.

Ramapati Shastri was appointed as the Protem Speaker of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly

  • Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel has appointed Ramapati Shastri as the Protem Speaker of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly. He won from the Mankapur assembly seat in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh.
  • The Protem speaker is the temporary speaker, who presides over the first meeting of the lower House of Parliament after the general elections besides presiding over the sitting in which the Speaker and Deputy Speaker are elected if it is a newly constituted House.

 

Hisashi Takeuchi was appointed as the MD and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India

  • Hisashi Takeuchi was appointed as the Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Maruti Suzuki India. He succeeded Kenichi Ayukawa.
  • Kenichi Ayukawa will continue as a whole-time Director designated as Executive Vice Chairman of the Maruti Suzuki India.

American mathematician Dennis P. Sullivan won the Abel prize for 2022

  • The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters has awarded the Abel prize for 2022 to American Mathematician Dennis Parnell Sullivan for his groundbreaking contributions to topology in its broadest sense and in particular, its algebraic, geometric and dynamical aspects.
  • Topology is a field of mathematics that was born in the nineteenth century and has to do with properties of surfaces that do not change when they are deformed.

 

Mario Marcel of Chile won the Governor of the year award 2022

  • The Governor of the Central Bank of Chile Mario Marcel was named as the Governor of the year award 2022 at the Central Banking Awards 2022.
  • Banco Central de Chile is the name of the central bank of Chile.

 

Obituary

Former Chief Justice of India R. C. Lahoti passed away at 81

  • Former Chief Justice of India C. Lahoti passed away at the age of 81. He was appointed as the thirty-fifth Chief Justice of India on 01 June 2004.
  • C. Lahoti also served as the former independent director on the board of directors of the Press Trust of India (PTI). He was appointed as arbitrator by the Government of India in the ₹ 20,000 crores high-profile tax dispute case with telecom major Vodafone.

 

GIF Inventor Steve Wilhite passed away at 74

  • American computer scientist and the creator of the GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) Stephen Wilhite passed away due to COVID-19.
  • He invented the GIF in 1987. He has received the Webby Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013.
