World Bank Approves Country Partnership Framework for India

The World Bank Board has endorsed an ambitious five-year Country Partnership Framework (CPF) for India, which aligns with New Delhi’s objectives of high, sustainable and inclusive growth.

The framework is expected to bring between 25 and 30 billion US Dollars in financial support from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).

The framework sets the strategic focus for the World Bank’s engagement with India for the period FY18-22. It supports the transition to a high-middle income economy.


PM laid the foundation stone of world class convention centre

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC).

The facilities provided at the centre will be equal to the best in the world in size and quality, offering setting for international and national events, meetings, conferences, exhibitions and trade shows. It will rank among the top 10 in the world and the biggest indoor exhibition space in India.

The project is planned over an area of 221.37 acre in Sector 25, Dwarka at an estimated cost of Rs 25,703 crore. The construction will be in line with green building principles and Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Platinum rating standards.


Union Home Ministry launches two portals to strengthen Women Safety

The Union Home Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh has launched two separate portals to strengthen Women Safety.

The portal “cybercrime.gov.in” will receive complaints from citizens on objectionable online content related to child pornography, child sexual abuse material, sexually explicit material such as rape and gang rape.

The second portal unveiled by the Union Home Minister today relates to the National Database on Sexual Offenders (NDSO). It is a central database of “sexual offenders” in the country which will be maintained by the NCRB for regular monitoring and tracking by the State Police.


BSE, NSE get SEBI approval to launch commodity derivatives segment

India’s leading stock exchanges Bombay Stock Exchange and National Stock Exchange of India have received approval from capital market regulator SEBI to launch commodity derivatives segment.

BSE will enter the segment with non-agriculture commodities like metals initially, followed by agri commodities subsequently.

India now would have a unified exchange regime wherein stock exchanges would be allowed to offer trading in commodities derivatives.


Vodafone Idea Board Approves Merger With Aditya Birla Telecom

The Board of Directors of Vodafone Idea Limited, India’s largest telecom operator approved merger of the Vodafone Idea Limited with the Aditya Birla Telecom Limited (ABTL), the parent company of Idea Cellular.

The merger was approved under the relevant provisions of the Companies Act, 2013. The merger is now subjected to approval of the National Company Law Tribunal.

The Aditya Birla Telecom Ltd holds 11.15 percent stake in telecom infrastructure firm Indus Towers Ltd.

This amalgamation will help Vodafone Idea to have direct Share Holding in Indus Towers.


Biplab Kumar Deb inaugurates ISRO’s Technology Incubation Centre in Agartala

The Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has inaugurated ISRO’s first Space Technology Incubation Centre at the National Institute of Technology Agartala via remote from Bengaluru.

The Centre was launched at the first edition of ‘Spacetronics’ organised by the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA).

Through such incubation centres, ISRO is looking to incubate start-ups that would build applications; offer services and products that it can use internally and help them scale up so that these firms can exploit opportunities globally.

India Contributes 1 Million to UN’s Ambitious Solar Project

India has contributed a whopping $1 million for the installation of solar panels on the roof of the imposing UN building at the world body’s headquarters.

The contribution will help reduce carbon footprint and promote sustainable energy. It was announced by India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Syed Akbaruddin.

3rd edition of MahaBiz 2018 to be held in Dubai

The 3rd edition of acclaimed International Business Conference  ‘MahaBiz 2018’ will be held in Dubai on 12th and 13th October 2018. MahaBiz is considered a bridge for business opportunities between Maharashtra state and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.

GCC is a political and economic alliance of six middle eastern countries. It includes Saudi Arabia , UAE , Kuwait , Oman , Bahrain and Qatar.


India & Sri Lanka sign MoU for construction of Warehouse in Dambulla, Sri Lanka

India and Sri Lanka has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for construction of a 5000-metric ton temperature controlled warehouse in Dambulla of Central Province.

The warehouse will be constructed with an Indian grant assistance of 30 crore Sri Lankan rupees.

The MoU was signed by Mr. Taranjit Singh Sandhu, High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka and Mr. K.D.S. Ruwanchandra, Secretary to Sri Lankan ministry of national policies and economic affairs.

The project envisages construction of a 5000-metric ton temperature controlled warehouse for fruits and vegetables to minimize its post-harvest losses.

Corporation Bank inks pact with NeSL

The Corporation Bank has signed an information utility (IU) agreement with National e-Governance Services Ltd (NeSL), the first IU registered with the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI), to share financial and security information under IBBI (IU) Regulation 2017.

They serve the needs of the banking system by providing data to insolvency professionals, adjudicating authority and the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India on the proof of borrowing, proof of default and security interest data in respect of NCLT cases while adhering to prescribed standards of information security.

The agreement was signed here in the presence of Jai Kumar Garg, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Corporation Bank, Gopal Murli Bhagat, Executive Director of the bank, and U Venkata Rao, Vice-President (IU Operations) of NeSL.

BARC Director K N Vyas appointed Atomic Energy Commission chief

The Renowned scientist Kamlesh Nilkanth Vyas has been appointed the secretary of the Department of Atomic Energy and chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission.

Vyas, who is at present Director of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), has been appointed in place of Shekhar Basu.

He has been conferred several awards, which include Indian Nuclear Society Outstanding Service Award 2011, Homi Bhabha Science and Technology Award 2006, DAE Awards in the years 2007, 2008, 2012 and 2013.

Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award Announced

The National Sports Awards 2018 were officially announced. The full list of National Sports Awards winners was released by Press Information Bureau (PIB).

Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli and weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu will receive the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award- India’s highest sports honour.

Kohli will become the third Indian cricketer after legendary Sachin Tendulkar (1997) and the talismanic former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (2007) once the sports ministry officially accepts the committee’s recommendation.

Chanu is the current Commonwealth Games gold-medallist and India’s biggest medal hope in weightlifting going into the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
