 1. Indian Coast Guard Ship ‘Vajra’ was commissioned to the Indian Coast Guard by the Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat at Kattupalli in Chennai

• Indian Coast Guard Ship ‘Vajra’ was commissioned by General Bipin Rawat, Chief of Defence Staff at Kattupalli in Chennai.
• This is the sixth in the series of seven Offshore Patrol Vessel designed and constructed by L&T. The 98meter ship is fitted with state-of-the-art Navigation and Communication Equipment, Sensors and Machinery and is designed to carry one twin-engine helicopter and four high-speed boats. The vessel can be used in Search and Rescue, Law Enforcement and Maritime Patrol. It is also capable of carrying Pollution Response Equipment for oil spill response at Sea.
• Vajra will be based at Tuticorin and will be deployed extensively for surveillance in exclusive economic zones in the Indian Coastal region.

Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV)

• OPVs are long-range surface ships, capable of operation in maritime zones of India, including island territories with helicopter operation capabilities. Their roles include coastal and offshore patrolling, policing maritime zones of India, control and surveillance, anti-smuggling and anti-piracy operations with limited wartime roles.
• ICGS Vajra is the sixth vessel in the series of seven OPVs being built by L&T under a Ministry of Defence contract signed in the year 2015. The seventh OPV ICGS Vigraha was launched in Oct 2020 and is being readied for sea trials. Tamil translation.

2. CJI recommended Justice N.V.Ramana as the next Chief Justice of India

• Chief Justice of India SA Bobde has recommended the name of Justice NV Raman as his successor ahead of his retirement on 23 April.
• CJI Bobde has sent a letter recommending Justice Ramana to be appointed as the 48th CJI to the Ministry of Law and Justice Minister Ravishankar Prasad.
• Once cleared for the appointment, Justice Ramana is expected to take over as the next CJI on April 24 and will retire on 26 August 2022.

Appointment of Chief Justice of India

• Law Minister would seek the recommendation of the outgoing Chief Justice of India for the appointment of the next CJI. After receipt of the recommendation of the CJI, the Law Minister puts it before the Prime Minister who advises the President on such appointments. President appoints the CJI. English translation.
• If the senior judge nominated for the post of Chief Justice is not fit, a final decision will be taken by consulting other judges of the Supreme Court as to who can be appointed next.
• Tamil translation. There has been a convention of CJI recommending the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court as his successor. Only twice, it was not followed – first when Justice AN Ray was appointed as the CJI on 25 April 1973 superseding three senior-most judges and the second time when Justice MH Beg was appointed the CJI on 29 January 1977 superseding Justice HR Khanna.

3. Chinki Yadav won gold as India claim all three medals in the women’s 25m pistol event

• Chinki Yadav won the gold medal in the women’s 25m Pistol event at the ISSF World Cup in New Delhi. Rahi Sarnobat finished with silver and Manu Bhaker secured the bronze medal.
• India’s Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar won the gold medal in the men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions event. The 20-year-old became the youngest in history to win a shooting World Cup gold in the 3 Positions event.  Tamil translation.

• The Andhra state government has now decided to set up “India’s first government-run ambulance network” for animals to boost the animal husbandry and veterinary sector in Andhra Pradesh.
• One of its main missions is to help reach out to distressed animals and provide them with proper animal healthcare.

• A unique “double mutant” coronavirus variant with a combination of mutations not seen anywhere else in the world has been found in India, the Union Health Ministry said.
• However, it is still to be established if this has any role to play in increased infectivity or in making COVID19 more severe.
• Indian SARSCoV2 Consortium on Genomics (INSACOG), revealed the presence of two mutations, E484Q and L452R together, samples from Maharashtra, Delhi, Punjab and Gujarat.
• While the two mutations have been individually identified in other variants of SARSCoV2 globally and have been associated with a reduction in vaccine efficacy, their combined effect and biological implications have not yet been understood.
• In the days ahead, the INSACOG will submit details of this variant to a global repository called GISAID and, if it merits, classify it as a “variant of concern” (VOC).

• The Danish Red Cross is offering the world’s first catastrophe bond for volcanic eruptions, which is designed to improve the provision and efficiency of humanitarian relief after eruptions of 10 volcanoes across three continents.
• The cat bond aims to raise $3 million from investors for aid in the aftermath of an eruption

• Vessels sometimes must wait days for harsh weather and rough tides to subside in the Stadhavet Sea before transiting the area at present.
• The project is expected to be completed by 2026.

9. Badamwari garden’s open to public on account of Spring

• The aromatic garden, Badamwari is located in the foothills of historic Koh-e-Maraan in Srinagar city.
• It is famous for full almond bloom in the garden and is also known as “Badam Waer”.
• During the opening ceremony, several cultural activities including traditional folk songs and group dance known as “RAUFF” were performed by local artists of Valley.

10. International Day of Remembrance of The Victims of Slavery and The Transatlantic Slave Trade

• Every year 25 March marks the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade is set aside to honour and remember those who suffered and died at the hands of slavery.
• The day also raises awareness about the dangers of racism and prejudice.
• The theme of 2021: Ending Slavery of Racism: A global imperative for Justice
• On 17 December 2007, the UN General Assembly designated March 25th as the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade. This commemorates the day in 1807 when the House of Commons and the House of Lords passed the Abolition of the Slave Trade Act. 25 March 2015, the UN unveiled a permanent memorial called the Ark of Return. The memorial was erected at the UN Headquarters in New York City to remember those who suffered and died during the slave trade.

• 17 டிசம்பர் 2007அன்று, ஐ.நா. பொதுச்சபை 25 மார்ச்சை அடிமை மற்றும் அடிமை வணிகத்தால் பாதிக்கப்பட்டவர்களுக்கு நினைவு நாளாக அறிவித்தது. 1807ஆம் ஆண்டு மக்களவையும் பிரபுக்கள் அவையும் அடிமை வணிகச் சட்டத்தை ஒழித்ததை நினைவு கூரும் வகையில், 25 மார்ச் 2015 அன்று ஐ.நா. அடிமைத்தனத்தால் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட மற்றும் இறந்தவர்களை நினைவுகூரும் வகையில் நியூயார்க் நகரில் உள்ள ஐ.நா. தலைமையகத்தில் வருகையின் வளைவு ஒன்றை நினைவுமண்டபமாக அமைத்தது.
