• The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has adopted Jagatpur village in Delhi for its Swachhata Abhiyaan. Jagatpur is destined to be one of the most beautiful villages in Delhi and NCR.

• President Ram Nath Kovind has approved governor’s rule in J&K. The move comes after the BJP pulled out of its three-year alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jammu and Kashmir.

• India and Tajikistan have reaffirmed their commitment to promote bilateral relations and agreed to enhance economic cooperation, particularly in sustainable water development.

• Rajasthan witnessed a world record by conducting the largest yoga session to mark the 4th International Yoga Day at Kota where over one lakh people together performed the yogic exercises. Yoga guru Ramdev conducted the yoga session that was attended by Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, ministers.

• Microsoft has announced the acquisition of Flipgrid, a Minneapolis-based educational software startup.

• Prime Minister Modi will dedicate the Mohanpura Irrigation Project in Rajgarh district to the people of the State and also inaugurate several other projects, including an urban transport scheme named ‘Sutra Seva’ in Indore Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of Vanijya Bhawan, a new office complex for the department of commerce that is to be built at an estimated cost of Rs 226 crore.

• India and Cuba have signed two MoUs in the field of biotechnology, traditional medicine and homoeopathy. The agreements were inked following delegation-level talks between President Ram Nath Kovind and his Cuban counterpart Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel at Revolution Palace in Havana.

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 3rd Annual Meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

• In an effort to increase the number of women in senior levels in the Information Technology (IT) industry, Nasscom has unveiled its ‘Women Wizards Rule Tech’ programme for women techies.

• The Gujarat government became the first state to launch a solar power scheme for farmers- Suryashakti Kisan Yojana (SKY). It enables them to generate electricity for their captive consumption as well as sell the surplus power to the grid through solar energy.

• The Centre of Excellence in Maritime & Shipbuilding (CEMS), a well-funded start-up in skill development for maritime and shipbuilding sector has announced setting up of 24 labs -6 in Mumbai and 18 in Vizag campus.

• The 22nd edition of Sindhu Darshan festival, being organized by Sindhu Darshan Yatra Samiti and Ladakh Phanday Tsogspa commenced with religious fervour and gaiety.

• Saudi Aramco and the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop and build an integrated refinery and petrochemicals complex at Ratnagiri in Maharashtra.

• Gender inequality in India is extremely high at the workplace and in terms of legal protection and political voice, according to a recent report by the McKinsey Global Institute (MGI) for the Asia-Pacific region.

• The Godikan village panchayat of Haryana has passed a ‘No Toilet No Bride’ resolution to ensure the safety and well-being of its womenfolk.

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved a proposal for setting up a committee to lay down standards for metro rail systems in the country.The committee will be headed by E Sreedharan, also known as the ‘Metro Man’.

• A campaign to motivate farmers to voluntarily adopt pro-farmer ‘Paani Bachao, Paise Kamao’ scheme for checking the depletion of groundwater in the district will be launched in Jalandhar, Punjab.

• The 4th National Review and Consultation on Swachh Iconic Places has begun in Hyderabad. To review the progress relating to maintenance and cleanliness of Iconic Places.

• The Central government has released Rs 340 crore to Assam for handling flood-related issues, including relief, rehabilitation and repair works of damaged infrastructure.

• The Maharashtra government has set up a committee to study issues related to the development of a 1,000-MW floating solar power plant at Ujani dam in Solapur district.

• India ranked no. 1 on the list due to the high risk of sexual violence and being forced into slave labor, according to the poll.The survey is taken by global experts by the Thomson Reuters Foundation.

• External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj launched a Passport Seva app for seamless application and issue of passports.

• The World Wildlife Fund-India has launched its first-ever comic book that also celebrates the geographical diversity of the country.

INTERNATIONAL

• India will construct a war memorial at Villers Guislain, a town around 200 km from Paris France to highlight the contribution of the soldiers of the undivided India to the freedom of France in the World War I.This was announced by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj

• Seychelles President Danny Faure arrived in Gujarat for his six-day visit to India. His visit comes days after the government in Seychelles called off a $550 million (Rs 3,760 crore) joint project with India to develop a naval base at the archipelago nation’s Assumption Island.

• The Researchers at the University of Michigan in the US have come out with the world’s smallest computer – a device that measures just 0.3 millimetres and could help find new ways to monitor and treat cancer.

• India is trying to make the strategic Chabahar Port in Iran operational by 2019. It was announced by Union Minister Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

• India and Bangladesh have agreed to institute a Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) as an annual feature between the two Navies.The commencement of CORPAT is major step towards enhanced operational interaction between both Navies.

• The United Arab of Emirates (UAE) will host a two-day “World Tolerance Summit” in November. With its theme, “Prospering from Pluralism: Embracing Diversity through Innovation and Collaboration”.

• An anti-doping sports conference titled ‘Clean Sport=Fair Outcome?’ was held at Oslo to address the issue of doping menace.

• The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the launch of Pakistan’s indigenously developed 285kg PakTES-1A observatory satellite in July.

• The world’s largest multilateral naval exercise Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) will begin in Hawaii in the Western Pacific Ocean. The two-month long biennial exercise is likely to be attended by navies of 26 countries including India.

• A Bill enacting Britain’s decision to leave the European Union (E.U.) has become law after months of debate.Britain’s Queen Elizabeth has granted royal assent to PM Theresa May’s Brexit legislation.

• India has pledged $5 million for the UN agency that helps Palestinian refugees during a campaign to make up for the shortfall in its funding after the US cut its contributions.

• The 15th India-Australia Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) was held on 25th June 2018, in Canberra, Australia.

BANKING AND ECONOMY

• The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) plans to invest USD 200 million in a fund of funds set up by India to take interest in infra projects.

• Russian state atomic energy corporation Rosatom’s subsidiary Nikiret has signed an agreement with Indian engineering services firm Core Energy Systems Pvt Ltd for the promotion of its technical security equipment in India.
