  • Armed Forces Flag Day is observed across the country. It is observed on the 7th of December every year to honour the martyrs and Armed Forces personnel, who safeguard the motherland.
  • Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu said, the day provides an opportunity to express gratitude to the nation towards forces guarding the borders and their families. 
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, the country salutes the indomitable courage of the Armed Forces and their families.

18th India-Myanmar Foreign Office Consultations held in New Delhi

  • The 18th round of Foreign Office Consultations between India and Myanmar was held in New Delhi. The Indian delegation was led by Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale and the Myanmar delegation was led by Permanent Secretary, U Soe Han.
  • The two sides reviewed the entire gamut of bilateral relations, the status of India’s ongoing projects in Myanmar, capacity building initiatives, bilateral trade relations, border cooperation and plans to enhance implementation of bilateral agreements.

Indian Railways provides free WiFi at five thousand 500 stations

  • The Railways has provided free WiFi at five thousand 500 stations across the country.
  • Jharkhand’s Mahuamilan railway station has become the five thousand 500th station to get the facility. 
  • Free Wi-Fi service to passengers are being provided under RailWire. The Railways began the service of providing free WiFi at its stations from January 2016 from Mumbai Central station.
  • CMD of RailTel, Puneet Chawla, said, in October this year, a total of 1.5 crores user logins in RailWire Wi-Fi services across all stations.

NEFT facility to be available round the clock from December 16

  • In a bid to promote digital transactions, Reserve Bank has said that round-the-clock transactions will be allowed under the National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) system from December 16. RBI said that the 24×7 NEFT system will be available on all days of the year, including holidays.
  • NEFT transactions are settled in hourly batches. For weekdays, the batches are from 8 am to 7 pm. On first and third Saturdays, the settlement happens from 8 am to 1 pm.

PM Modi meets Mauritius PM, talks bilateral ties and development projects

  • India and Mauritius have agreed to work closely to build upon the close multi-faceted bilateral relations and to explore new avenues of engagement, based on mutual interest and priorities.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met his Mauritian counterpart Pravind Jugnauth in New Delhi. The Mauritius Prime Minister accompanied by his spouse, Kobita Jugnauth is on a private visit to India.
  • Mr Modi said that the government and people of Mauritius can count on India’s wholehearted support and continued solidarity in their aspirations to build a more secure, stable and prosperous Mauritius.

Diabetic population in country is close to hitting alarming mark of 69.9 million by 2025: MoS AYUSH

  • The diabetic population in the country is close to hitting the alarming mark of 69.9 million by 2025, which is expected to witness an increase of 266 per cent.
  • This was stated by Minister of State for Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy Shripad Naik in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
  • The Minister said that the Centre of Research in Ayurveda Sciences, an autonomous body under Ayush Ministry, has been engaged in extending research-oriented Ayurveda based or integrative health care services for the management of Madhumeha, which is Diabetes Mellitus.

Ganga has become one of 10 cleanest rivers in the world: Jalshakti Minister

  • The government has said that river Ganga has become one of the 10 cleanest rivers in the world among the major rivers category.
  • Addressing 4th India Water Impact Summit, 2019 in New Delhi, Jalshakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat attributed it to efforts made by the government in this direction.
  • He said Centre is committed to ensuring cleanliness and uninterrupted flow of the Ganga.
  • Mr Sekhawat has expressed concern over the problem of safe drinking water and said, India has only 4 per cent of the world’s potable water while 18 per cent of the world’s human and equivalent livestock population.

Govt launched National Clean Air Programme: Javadekar

  • Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Prakash Javadekar today said that the Central Government launched National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) as a long-term, time-bound, national-level strategy to tackle the air pollution problem across the country in a comprehensive manner.
  • He said the government is targeting to achieve 20 per cent to 30 per cent reduction in Particulate Matter PM10 and PM2.5 concentrations by 2024 keeping 2017 as the base year for the comparison of concentration.

Sri Lanka, Maldives agree to strengthen bilateral cooperation

  • This was agreed to during meeting of visiting Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid with Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
  • Both the leaders agreed that the Indian Ocean must remain free and open for all nations for their economic upliftment.
  • President Rajapaksa said, it was Sri Lanka that proposed the Indian Ocean be declared as a zone of peace in early 70s.
  • Maldivian Minister highlighted the importance of improving people to people relations between the two countries.

Maldives FM reaches Colombo on 3-day visit to Sri Lanka

  • Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid reached Colombo last night on a three-day visit to Sri Lanka to have talks with the new Government.
  • In a message before his departure, he said Maldives-Sri Lankan friendship and cooperation dates back centuries and he looks forward to productive meetings to further consolidate excellent relationship between the two countries.
  • During the visit, Minister Shahid will pay courtesy calls on President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. He will also hold bilateral talks with Sri Lankan foreign minister Dinesh Gunawardena. Colombo has a big Maldivian diaspora, considered second only to Male.

Haryana govt distributed 101 Pashu Kisan Credit Cards in Bhiwani

  • The First Pashu Kisan credit cards in India were distributed to 101 animal farmers in Bhiwani in Haryana. 
  • Animal Husbandry & Dairy processing Minister of Haryana, Jayprakash Dalal and Chairman Haryana Animal Husbandry Development Board, Somvir Sangwaan were present on this occasion. Haryana Government has set a target to issue 10 lakh Pashu Kisan Credit cards by March 2021.
  • Under the Scheme, banks give Rs 40783 for a cow and Rs 60249 for a buffalo.  The credit amount for goat and sheep each is Rs 4063. In the case of a pig, it is Rs 16337 per pig. For Hens, it is Rs 720 per layer and Rs 161 per broiler hen.

MP govt approves Rs 156-crore development plan for Omkareshwar

  • Madhya Pradesh government sanctioned a sum of 156 crore rupees for development of Omkareshwar, a famous pilgrimage centre which houses one of the 12 Jyotirlinga shrines of Lord Shiva.
  • The government had earlier sanctioned 300 crore rupees for development of Mahakaleshwar, also a Jyotirlinga shrine located in Ujjain. Madhya Pradesh has the distinction of housing two of the 12 Jyotirlinga shrines in the country.

Home Minister Amit Shah attends 1st day of national conference of DGPs, IGPs in Pune

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended the first day of the three-day National Conference of Directors General and Inspectors General of Police in Pune.
  • The conference is being held at the Indian Institute of Science, Education and Research (IISER) at Baner and the Centre for Police Research (CPR) in Pashan area of the city.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be present tomorrow and day after to address the meet. National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, Heads of Central Investigation and Intelligence Agencies and Chiefs of the Paramilitary Forces are also attending the conference.
  • The theme of the conference this year is aimed at promoting scientific and forensic-based investigation as well as technology-enabled policing.

India leads 13th South Asian Games in Nepal with 186 medals

  • India is on top with 186 medals comprising 89 gold, 65 silver and 32 bronze medals on 7th day of 13th South Asian Games in Nepal. On the final day of athletics, India won 9 medals. 
  • In men’s marathon, Rashpal Singh won silver and Shre Singh got bronze. In women’s marathon, Jyoti Gawate bagged the bronze. In Javelin throw, Shivpal Singh won silver in men’s section while Kumari Sharmila got bronze in women.
  • In men’s 800 metres sprint Mohammed Afsal clinched silver and Lily Das bronze in women’s category. In 4×400 metres relay, Indian sprinters won silver in men’s and bronze in women’s section
  • Indian Wrestlers made a brilliant start of their campaign by winning all 4 golds on Friday. In women’s 50 kg category, Sheetal Tomar grabbed gold while Pinki clinched 53 kg title. In men’s section,  Rahul won gold in 57 kg and Amit Kumar in 65 kg. In swimming, Indian athletes have entered into the final of all seven events of the day.

Incredible India Road Show to be held in Singapore

            

  • The Incredible India Road Show will be held in Singapore, positioning the country as a preferred destination for tourists. India Tourism Office in Singapore said the roadshow by Indian delegation will provide a platform to the stakeholders of India’s tourism industry to interact with their Singaporean counterparts.
  • Indian delegation comprises 25 tour operators and destination management companies along with representations from the state governments of Punjab and Madhya Pradesh. A total of 1,75,852 tourists from Singapore visited India in 2017, a growth of 7.4 per cent on the year, said the India Tourism Singapore office.

Maldives Parliament speaker will be on 5-day visit to India next week

  •        Maldives Parliament speaker Mohamed Nasheed is leading a 14-member parliamentary delegation on a five-day visit to India next week to seek cooperation between legislatures of the two countries. 
  • The delegation consists of 15 members with equal representation for all political parties and is being accompanied by the parliament’s secretary-general and counsellor-general.
  • Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed between the 19th parliament of Maldives and Lok Sabha.

Finland elects Sanna Marin, the youngest-ever Prime Minister

  • Finland’s Social Democrats elected a 34-year-old former transport minister to the post of the prime minister, making her the youngest head of government in the country’s history. 
  • Former PM Antti Rinne had headed Finland’s centre-left five-party coalition since June, and Marin’s appointment is unlikely to lead to significant policy changes by the Social Democrat-led administration.
  • Rinne stepped down after several weeks of political crisis over a plan to cut wages for 700 postal workers.

7th OPEC and non-OPEC Ministerial Meeting held in Vienna, Austria

  • 7th edition of the OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) and non-OPEC Ministerial Meeting was held in Vienna, Austria. 
  • The meeting was held under the Co-Chairmanship of OPEC’s President, Manuel Salvador Quevedo Fernandez, People’s Minister of Petroleum of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, and Alexander Novak, Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation.
  • The oil producers from various countries discussed to work on a new agreement for oil production as the existing deal will expire at the end of March 2020.
  • The reduction in oil production by 5lakhs would bring production 1.7 million barrels per day below October 2018 level.  It will lead to an overall production cut to 2.1 million barrels per day.

National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) of Jal Shakti Ministry organises the 4th India Water Impact Summit

  • The ‘India Water Impact Summit’ is an annual event where problems and solutions for the biggest water related issues in the country are discussed.
  • The 4th India Water Impact Summit was held from December 5th to 7th, 2019 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. It was jointly organised by the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) of Ministry of Jal Shakti and Centre for Ganga River Basin Management and Studies (cGanga) led by IIT-Kanpur. The summit was inaugurated by Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Shekawat.
  • The theme for this year’s summit was:‘Valuing Water – Transforming Ganga‘. The annual summit also focussed on integrated water resource management in urban and rural areas. The prime objective of the summit was bringing together global financial investors and institutions to focus on water impact in smart cities.
  • The previous annual summit, which was the 3rd edition of Water impact summit was organised on the 5th to 7th of December, 2018 at New Delhi.

Haryana CM inaugurates Integrated Command and Control Centre

  • Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has inaugurated Gurgaon’s ambitious Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC). It has been developed as the nerve centre to provide multifaceted online smart services to people.
  • Mr Khattar inaugurated the millennium city’s ICCC in presence of Union Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation Rao Inderjit Singh.
  • The ICCC has been designed to serve as the nodal point for all online data related to the Smart City applications, including CCTV-based public safety and adaptive traffic management system, smart parking system, water supply management system, pollution monitoring, property tax management system and asset management system. The Integrated Command and Control Centre was built at the cost of 38 crore rupees.

Manipur CM inaugurates Imphal to Dimapur direct flight service

  • Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh inaugurated Imphal to Dimapur direct flight service today at Imphal Airport. The flight service which is being operated by Alliance Air would be operational thrice a week.
  • The Chief Minister said, the flight service would further strengthen the friendly relations between Manipur and Nagaland. This better connectivity would build deeper connections among the people of the two states.

India’s top 10 Police Stations for 2019 announced: Andaman tops the list

  • The Ministry of Home Affairs (MOH) has released the list of best performing Police Stations across the country for the year 2019. Aberdeen police station from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Balasinor police station from Gujarat and Ajk Burhanpur from Madhya Pradesh take the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively. 
  • The aim of the grading was to select the top 10 police stations out of 15,579 police stations across the country by CCTNS (Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems) database, direct observation and public feedback. The best police stations from each state was shortlisted on the basis of Property offence, Crime against women and Crime against weaker sections.
  • The police stations included in the initial selection were 3 from each state with more than 750 police stations, 2 from all the other states and Delhi and 1 from each Union Territory (UT), out of which 79 police stations were selected for the final stage of the process.

Rajendran Chinna Veerappan reappointed as the MD and CEO of CSB Bank

  • Rajendran Chinna Veerappan was appointed as the Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Catholic Syrian Bank (CSB) bank, Thrissur, Kerala by the Board of Directors of CSB bank in the Board meeting held on 2nd December 2019 for a three year term effective from 9th December 2019 to 8th December 2022.
  • Veerappan was in the Board of CSB bank since 2016 and his term of office was to end on December 8 while the Board decided to reappoint him as the MD and CEO.
  • Veerappan previously served as the chief executive of the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) and has 40 years of experience in banking and finance. He has previously worked in Corporation Bank, Andhra Bank and Bank of Maharashtra.

Ripu Daman Bevli appointed as Plogging Ambassador of India by Kiren Rijiju

   

  • Ripu Daman Bevli as Plogging Ambassador on 50th Fit India Plogging RunOn 5th December 2019, Ripu Daman Bevli, also known as, ‘Plogman of India’ was appointed as Plogging Ambassador of India by Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) on the concluding day of 50th Fit India Plogging Run in Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. 
  • The minister also launched the Plogging Ambassador Mission to nominate Indians who have been running and cleaning their cities, towns or districts as Plogging Ambassadors of their region.
  • Daman Belvi started plog running in the year 2017 and he also started the Fit India Plogging Run as an initiative to make India litter-free. Belvi and his team have cleaned about 2.7 tonnes of garbage, over 1000km in 2 months covering 50 cities.
  • The first Fit India Plogging run was started on 2nd October 2019, including 36 lakh people over 62,000 different locations. It was organized by the Sports Authority of India, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), National Service Scheme (NSS), NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations), Kendriya Vidyalaya and several other organizations.

Girish Chandra Chaturvedi appointed as chairman of National Stock Exchange

  • NSE appoints Girish Chandra Chaturvedi its chairman.India’s leading stock exchange the National Stock Exchange(NSE) has appointed public interest Director Girish Chandra Chaturvedi as its new chairman. 
  • The appointment was done after market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India’s (SEBI) approval. Chaturvedi replaced Ashok Chawla, who resigned as a chairman in January 2019.
  • Shri Chaturvedi who is a retired IAS Indian Administrative Service) officer has previously served as Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoP&NG).He also serves as a non-executive chairman of the ICICI (Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India) Bank.

Manpreet Singh and Lalremsiami nominated for FIH Player of the Year award 

  • Manpreet Singh, a veteran of 242 international caps, is the midfield pivot of the Indian team Vivek Prasad and Lalremsiami were also nominated for the men’s and women’s FIH Rising Star of the Year award respectively. 
  • The 19-year-old Prasad led the Indian team in the Youth Olympics last year where the country won a silver medal Manpreet Singh. Indian men’s hockey captain Manpreet Singh was on Friday nominated for the Player of the Year award by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) after he led the country to a Tokyo Olympics berth.

Joshua reclaims his world heavyweight crown from Andy Ruiz

              

  • Britain’s Anthony Joshua reclaimed his world heavyweight crown from Andy Ruiz, outclassing the Mexican American to score a unanimous points victory. 
  • Joshua, who suffered a stunning knockout defeat to Ruiz in New York in June, produced a masterclass performance to regain his IBF, WBA and WBO titles in emphatic fashion at Ad Diriyah in Saudi Arabia last night. Dominating from the outset, Joshua won by margins of 118-110 on two scorecards with the third judge making it 119-109.

Caroline Wozniacki, Former World No.1 Tennis Player announced her retirement

  • Caroline Wozniacki (29), former World No.1 tennis player announced her retirement from tennis after next month’s Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tournament of the year 2019 and WTA
  • Caroline turned a professional tennis player in the age of 15 in the year 2005, she was in the top of the WTA rankings for 71 weeks, after which she became the world’s best player in October 2010, she has won 30 WTA titles including the 2017 Tour Finals in Singapore and finished 11 straight seasons in the world top 20, she is currently in 37th place after her poor form in 2019.

11-year-old Manas becomes first Indian to win ‘Jr Grand Slam’ in Florida 

  • Manas Dhamne become the first Indian in history to win the prestigious Under-12 ITF Eddie Herr International Junior Championship at IMG Academy, Florida, USA.
  • He did everything right to defeat Maxwell E of USA 3-6, 6-0,10-6. 
  • Before Manas, only Yuki Bhambri has won the other ‘Junior Grand Slam’ in the form of Orange Bowl in 2008. Yuki then went on to become the Junior World No.1 and reached the top-100 in Pros in later years.
