38th India International Trade Fair Begins in New Delhi

The Culture Minister Dr Mahesh Sharma has inaugurated the 38th India International Trade Fair (IITF) at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.

India International Trade Fair will provide a platform for all kind of businesses to showcase their excellence & wide spectrum of services to trade, industry & common men.

This year the theme of the fair is Rural Enterprises in India. In this year’s fair Afghanistan is the Partner Country, while Nepal is the Focus Country. Jharkhand is participating as a Partner State in the event.

Note: India has jumped to 77th place in ease of doing business ranking of the world bank.


Kochi signs MoU with Vilnius

As part of the European Union (EU) project ‘International Urban Cooperation’, Kochi Corporation and Vilnius, the capital city of Lithuania, have signed a memorandum of understanding.

The primary focus of the cooperation would be urban planning, corporate planning, transport, solid water management and water management.

The delegation held discussions on urban development policies, cultural heritage, democratic administrative system and modern technologies of both cities with Remigijus Šimašius Mbn, the Mayor of Vilnius.

The Vilnius team will visit Kochi in January next year to identify more areas of cooperation between the two cities.


Government to release Rs 75 commemorative coin to mark anniversary of Tricolour hoisting by Bose

The government will release a Rs 75 coin to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose hoisting the Tricolour for the first time at Port Blair.

The Ministry of Finance has issued a notification regarding the release of the Rs 75 coin along with its specifications.

On December 30, 1943, Bose, who raised the Indian National Army (INA) to fight against the British, had hoisted the Tricolour for the first time at Cellular Jail, Port Blair.

The commemorative Rs 75 coin will weigh 35 grams.This coin will bear the portrait of ‘Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’ saluting the flag on the background of Cellular Jail in Port Blair.

The coin will carry an inscription saying ‘First Flag Hoisting Day’ in both Devanagari script and English.


Government Sets Up State Of-The-Art National Data Repository

The Government has set up a state of -the- art National Data Repository. It is a database of all the geo-scientific data of hydrocarbon resources in the country.

National Data Repository is equipped with cutting-edge technology and provides ready access to interested companies.

With the introduction of National Data Repository in Indian E&P regime, India has joined the league of countries like UK and Norway which have a National Data Repository for the upstream sector.

2-Day Annual Meeting of WEF Global Future Councils Held in Dubai

In the UAE, the two day annual meeting of World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Global Future Councils began in Dubai.

Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum attended the opening session.

The objective of the Annual Meeting of the Global Future Councils is to convene the world’s best network of experts to identify new ideas and models that can be applied to critical global challenges.


AWARDS AND HONOURS

Dr. Martha Farrell received lifetime achievement award for her contribution in social work

Late Dr. Martha Farrell has been honoured with the “Lifetime Achievement Award” at the 6th Indian Social Work Congress in New Delhi.

Dr. Farrell is being recognized for her lifelong work towards gender equality, women’s empowerment and prevention of sexual harassment at workplace.

She was among 14 people killed in a terrorist attack on a guest house in Kabul, Afghanistan on May 13, 2015.

Suheil Tandon, Martha’s son along with the team of Martha Farrell Foundation received the award.

BIS Names Siddharth Tiwari as Chief Representative for Asia

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) has announced that Siddharth Tiwari has joined the BIS as Chief Representative for Asia and the Pacific. He succeeds Eli Remolona.

Mr Tiwari will work to deepen cooperation between the BIS and central banks in Asia and the Pacific.

The Bank for International Settlements is an international financial institution owned by central banks which “fosters international monetary and financial cooperation and serves as a bank for central banks”.

Ministers Sadananda Gowda and Narendra Singh Tomar Gets Additional Charge

Union Ministers DV Sadananda Gowda and Narendra Singh Tomar were assigned additional portfolios of the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers and the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, respectively.

It is decided following the demise of Union Minister and Karnataka BJP leader Ananth Kumar.

While Gowda is in charge of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Tomar holds the portfolio of the Ministry of Rural Development, Panchayati Raj and Mines. The two ministers were assigned the additional portfolios which were earlier held by Ananth Kumar.


OBITUARY

Veteran sports journalist Roshan Lal Sethi passes away

The Veteran sports journalist Roshan Lal Sethi has passed away.

Sethi started his sports journalism career in 1964 with ‘Motherland’ newspaper and remained associated with it till 1975 as sports editor.

It aims to raise awareness of pneumonia, promote prevention and treatment, and generate action to fight the illness.
