Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan meets UAE Human Resource Minister in Dubai

The Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan met UAE Minister for Human Resource Nasser Bin Thani Juma Al Hamli in Dubai.

He has discussed in areas of cooperation with UAE in areas of Skill development of Indian people working in UAE.  He also discussed the need of synchronization of certification and standards of the two countries so that people skilled in India get easy employment in UAE.

Mr Pradhan will inaugurate the Indian Pavilion at the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) in Abu Dhabi.

33rd ASEAN Summit Begins In Singapore

The 33rd edition of the ASEAN Summit began in Singapore.

The Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong is the Chairman of the Summit, which will continue till 15th November along with other related summits like East Asia Summit (EAS), Regional Comprehensive Economic Summit, (RCEP) and ASEAN plus summits.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also scheduled to attend the East Asia Summit and Associated meetings of ASEAN on 14th and 15th November in Singapore.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN) is a regional intergovernmental organization comprising ten Southeast Asian countries.

FinTech festival kicks off in Singapore

The third edition of the FinTech Festival kicks off in Singapore alongside the ASEAN summit. It will begin with the three-day Fintech Conference.

Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, and Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, will address the audience on the third day of the FinTech Conference.

With over 250 speakers, 450 exhibitors, 16 international pavilions and close to 40,000 participants expected, this year’s event promises to be the biggest FinTech event in the world to date.

BANKING AND ECONOMY

RBI Relaxes ECB Norms for Infrastructure Companies

The Reserve Bank has liberalised the norms governing foreign borrowings for infrastructure creation “in consultation with the Government”.

The minimum average maturity requirement for ECBs (external commercial borrowings) in the infrastructure space raised by eligible borrowers has been reduced to three years from earlier five years.

Additionally, the average maturity requirement for mandatory hedging has been reduced to five years from earlier ten years.

Arunima Sinha Gets Honorary Doctorate In The UK

Arunima Sinha, the Indian mountaineer who became the world’s first woman amputee to climb Mount Everest in 2013, has been awarded an honorary doctorate by a prestigious UK university for her inspirational achievements.

She was conferred with the honorary doctorate by the University of Strathclyde at a graduation ceremony in Glasgow.

In 2015, she was presented with the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award.


Jawahar Lal Sarin presented with France’s highest civilian honour

Jawahar Lal Sarin, president of the Alliance franaise de Delhi’s governing body, was presented with the Chevalier de la Lgion d’Honneur, France’s highest civilian honour.

The award was presented to Sarin by Ambassador of France Alexandre Ziegler in recognition of his outstanding contribution to enhancing Indo-French cultural cooperation and promoting the French language.

The Legion d’Honneur(Legion of Honour), instituted in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte, is the highest civilian award given by the French Republic for outstanding service to France, regardless of the nationality of the recipient.


UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage announced for the year 2018

The UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation programme recognizes the efforts of private individuals and organizations that have successfully conserved structures and buildings of heritage value in the region.

The renewal of the early 20th-century Shijo-cho Ofune-hoko Float Machiya has received the Award of Excellence in this year’s UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation.

Book On Mouth Cancer ‘Arivu’ Released

November 7 is observed as National Cancer Awareness Day in India each year. The day is marked out to teach people to combat the disease.

Dr Murali Mohan Chuntharu, a Dental Surgeon and also DK Home Guard Commandant has written a book named “Arivu”, which explains about Mouth Cancer and prevention of the disease.

Bangalore Ranked India’s Most Congested City: NBER

According to the US-based organisation, National bureau of economic research (NBER), Bangalore tops the index for most congested city, and Mumbai in the second position, while Pune follows in the seventh place. The report was titled ‘Mobility and Congestion in Urban India’.

In another index of traffic speed, Kolkata has been found to be the slowest city, while Pune manages to hold down its position to the 20th place.

The researchers studied 154 Indian cities and measured trips based on the web-mapping service, Google Maps.


APPOINTMENTS

Ashok Kumar Gupta appointed as the chairman of Competition Commission of India

Former IAS officer Ashok Kumar Gupta has been appointed as the chairperson of the Competition Commission of India. It was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).

The appointment would be till October 25, 2022. Gupta would replace acting chairperson Sudhir Mital.

Bajrang Punia Becomes Number 1 In World in 65kg

Star Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia has touched a new high in his career by achieving the number one rank in the world in the 65kg category.

The 24-year-old Bajrang, who has won five medals this season, including CWG and Asian Games gold and a silver at the World Championship, was placed atop the ranking table with 96 points in the UWW list.

Cuban Alejandro Enrique Vlades Tobier is at second place and Russia’s Akhmed Chakaev (62) is in third place.


OBITUARY

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar passed away

The Union Fertilizer & Chemicals, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar has passed away.

In his second term itself, he became Union Minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee Cabinet.

He has earlier served as Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister.


Economist TN Srinivasan passed away

The distinguished economist Thirukodikaval Nilakanta Srinivasan, better known as Prof TN Srinivasan, passed away.

Srinivasan earned a doctorate in in Economics from Yale University, in 1962 and has since been teaching and working in the US. The Government of India conferred on him the Padma Bhushan in 2007.

His famous books include India’s Economic Reforms co-authored with renowned economist Jagdish Bhagwati, and Reintegrating India with World Economy, with economist Suresh Tendulkar.

Veterans Day originally known as Armistice Day is observed annually on November 11, honoring military veterans. It is observed in U.S.

This is observed for the persons who served in the United States Armed Forces.


National education day – November 11

National Education Day is an annual observance in India to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first education minister of independent India.

The objective of celebrating National Education Day should be to strengthen our educational institutions and to raise the quality of education to greater heights.


National Public Service Broadcasting Day – November 12

The Public Service Broadcasting Day was observed across India on November 12, 2018.

The day is observed every year to commemorate the first and last visit of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi to the studio of All India Radio, Delhi in 1947.
