4th NITI Aayog- DRC Dialogue Held in Mumbai
The Fourth Dialogue of the NITI Aayog – Development Research Centre (DRC) of the State Council, People’s Republic of China was held in Mumbai.
The Chinese delegation was led by Mr. Li Wei, President of DRC and the Indian delegation was led by Dr Rajiv Kumar, Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog.
It is a strong platform for continuous intellectual engagement between the two countries, wherein inputs from sectoral experts help identify and collaborate on key areas of India-China economic cooperation.
Both sides also agreed to examine various trade sector related issues, and the need for enhanced policy coordination to facilitate investments.
India and Japan signs loan Agreement for Turga Hydel Project
India and Japan has signed a Rs 1,817 crore loan agreement for the construction of the Turga pumped storage hydel power project at Purulia in West Bengal.
The project will contribute to the industrial development and living standards in the state.
The objective of the project is to strengthen the capability to respond to fluctuation in supply and demand of power and to improve stability of the power supply by constructing the pumped storage facilities.
INS Viraat To Become A Floating Museum
The Maharashtra state cabinet has cleared the decks for the Navy’s longest-serving aircraft carrier, INS Viraat, now retired, to be converted into India’s first-ever moored maritime museum-cum-marine adventure centre.
As per the Maharashtra government’s Rs 852-crore plan for Viraat, the ship’s conversion will be on public private-partnership (PPP) basis.
It will be grouted (grounded, sealed to the seabed with concrete and moored) seven nautical miles off the Malvan coast at Nivati rocks in Sindhudurg.
Viraat will host biodiversity centres and a marine adventure centre providing sailing and scuba-diving experiences. There will be virtual galleries, cafeterias and even a training centre for merchant navy crew.
India-Japan Military Exercise ‘Dharma Guardian’ Kick Starts In Mizoram
Armies of India and Japan began their first-ever joint military exercise at a jungle warfare school in Mizoram’s Vairengte with a focus on strengthening counter-terror cooperation.
The focus of the two-week-long exercise ‘Dharma Guardian-2018′ will be to enhance tactical skills against global terrorism and increase interoperability between the two forces.
Railways Ministry launches ‘UTS on Mobile’ facility to enable seamless booking of unreserved tickets
Ministry of Railways has introduced Unreserved Mobile Ticketing with a view to promote three C’s- Cashless transactions (Digital payment), Contact less ticketing (no need to physically visit the point of sale) and Customer convenience and experience.
The facility of booking unreserved tickets, including season tickets and also platform tickets is available through the ‘UTSONMOBILE’ app available for Android, IOS and Windows phones.

1st WHO Global Conference on Air Pollution and Health Held in Geneva
The first Global Conference on Air Pollution and Health will be held at WHO Headquarters in Geneva on 30 October – 1 November 2018.
The conference is being held in collaboration with UN Environment, World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the Secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Climate and Clean Air Coalition to Reduce Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (CCAC) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).
Air pollution in most cities exceeds recommended WHO Air Quality levels and household air pollution is a leading killer in poor rural and urban homes. Up to 1/3 of deaths from stroke, lung cancer and heart disease are due to air pollution.

Kirloskar Group Gets RBI Nod For NBFC Biz
The Kirloskar group has received licence from the Reserve Bank to launch a non-banking finance company (NBFC), Kirloskar Capital, which will be headed by industry veteran Vimal Bhandari.
The company will invest Rs 1,000 crore in the proposed NBFC, which will be a fully-owned subsidiary of Kirloskar Oil Engines, and will focus on providing growth capital to industry with an initial focus on small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
The NBFC will be led by Vimal Bhandari as the chief executive.
HDFC ERGO launched ‘Cyber Security Awareness Week’
HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company, India’s third largest non-life insurance provider in the private sector launched the ‘Cyber Security Awareness Week’ starting from October 21, 2018 to October 27, 2018.
During the week, HDFC ERGO aims to create awareness about the facets of cybercrime and promote the need of cyber security among individuals.
The theme is ‘#HackSeLado’.

Mary Kom Named Brand Ambassador Of 2018 Women’s World Boxing Championships
Olympic bronze medalist MC Mary Kom was named as the brand ambassador of the 10th edition of the Women’s World Championship.
The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) also unveiled the logo and anthem for the World Boxing Championships.
The World Championships, to be held at the Indira Gandhi indoor stadium, would see participation from around 325 pugilists from 73 countries from November 15 to 24.

Azhar Ali Announces Retirement From ODIs
Pakistani batsman Azhar Ali has announced retirement from One Day International (ODI) cricket.
Azhar´s tally of runs in 53 one-day internationals stood at 1,845 runs at an average of 36.90 including three hundreds and 12 half centuries.
Rahul Dravid inducted into ICC Hall of Fame
Rahul Dravid became the fifth Indian to be inducted in the ICC Hall of Fame on Thursday as Sunil Gavaskar presented him with the momento prior to the start of the fifth One-Day International between India and West Indies.
Dravid was presented with the framed cap by Gavaskar as he was formally inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.
Dravid has scored 23, 208 international runs for India across formats, including 48 hundreds and 146 fifties. He has scored the runs at an average of 45.41.
The four Indians who were inducted in the ICC Hall of Fame prior to Dravid are:
Sunil Gavaskar (1971-1987) – inducted in 2009
Bishan Singh Bedi (1966-1979) – inducted in 2009
Kapil Dev (1978-1994) – inducted in 2010
Anil Kumble (1990-2008) – inducted in 2015
