D.19-20) In the following questions below are given a statement followed by two assumption numbered I and II. An assumption is something supposed or taken for granted. Q.19) Statement: The movie is a super-duper hit and has broken all the records.

b) If only assumption II is implicit

c) If either assumption I or II is implicit

d) If neither assumption I or II is implicit

e) If both assumptions I or II is implicit

Explanation:

Q.11) (e) Colleges have been closed for one week, and consecutively many parents have withdrawn their children from college. We can deduce that both these effects must be of some common cause.

Q.12) (b) Considering the two statements, it is clear that since the police and the judiciary have failed to enforce the law, there has been a rise in the breach of the law. Hence, statement II is the cause and I is its effect.

Q.13) (e) Since the cease-fire violations alone couldn’t have contributed towards the deterioration of the India-Pakistan ties, both of these statements I and II must be due to a common cause. Hence, both the statements I and II are effects of some common cause.

Q.14) (c) We can deduce that the cause for the Indian team’s spectacular performance can’t be the same as the decision to appoint Ravi Shastri as the new head coach of the Indian Team. Hence, both the statements I and II are independent causes

Q.15) (b) As it is common knowledge that a growth in the Indian Economy can contribute towards a rise in the standard of living of the Middle-class Society, it follows that statement II is the cause and statement I is its effect.

Q.16) (e)

Both the assumptions are implicit, since the company has advertised travel to Shimla it can be reasonable to expect that there must be an airport in Shimla and since they offer free travel packages to London it is also implicit that they have flights available for that.

Q.17) (e)

Both the assumptions are implicit, as we can derive from the statement there must be Railway facilities to these holiday destinations for them to not provide concessions and conversely, we can deduce that there must be other destinations where concessions must have been provided.

Q.18) (d) Only option (d) can be inferred from the given statement, as people must be willing to buy the products for them to advertise it to such an extent. A is contradictory to the statement as it says that people don’t heed to advertisements, B is not supported by any facts from the statement and C is irrelevant as it talks about how people want their celebrities to market the product.

Q.19) (b)

Always the records are compared with previous performances, so assumption II is implicit. Assumption II is baseless as it is not supported by the statement.

Q.20) (d) Neither assumption I or II is implicit, as assumption I makes an absurd point that there were no avid readers in a vast country like India. Also, assumption II is contradictory to the given statement as it states that the book has made many people to read it.
