Directions (6-10): Each question below is followed by two statements A and B. You are to determine whether the data given in the statement is sufficient for answering the question. You should use the data and your knowledge of mathematics to choose between the possible answers.

(a) If the statement A alone is sufficient to answer the question, but the statement B alone is not sufficient.

(b) If the statement B alone is sufficient to answer the question, but the statement A alone is not sufficient.

(c) If the statement A and B together are needed to answer the question.

(d) If either the statements A alone are statement B alone is sufficient to answer the question.

(e) If you cannot get the answer from the statement A and B together, but need even more data.

10) What is the salary of C, in a group of A, B, C, D, E, and F whose average salary is ₹ 60, 000?

I. Total of the salary of A and E is ₹ 64, 500

II. Total of the salary of B and F is ₹ 52, 600

Answer Key:

1. (d) 2. (e) 3. (b) 4. (e) 5. (c) 6. (d) 7. (a) 8. (c) 9. (b) 10. (e)

Explanation:

1) (d)

The given data are inadequate.

2) (e)

from statement II, If the age of Rani = x years, then Surekha`s age = 2 x years

∴ x + 2x = 723x = 72 years

X = 72/3  = 24 years

Rani age = 24 years

As per the given information in statement I, Nidhi`s age can be determined.

3) (b)

Statement I is superfluous. From statement II,

Number of boys in the school = 3500 × (60/100)=2100

Number of boys in the school = (3500×60)/100=2100

Required ratio = 2100 : 1400 = 3 : 2

4) (e)

Let Mr. Mehta`s present income be ₹ x.

From statement I and II, 10% of X = 2500

X = 2500 × 10 = ₹ 25000

5) (c)

from statement I,

Speed of the bus = (distance covered)/(time taken)

= 80/5= 16 kmph

As per the information in statement II, the speed of the bus can also be determined.

6) (d)

from statement A,

A number divisible by 2 is an even number.

From statement B,

2 + 3 = 5 (odd number)

4 + 9 = 13 (odd number)

7) (a)

from statement A,

Let the number be x.

(x/2)-(x/3)=27

= (3x-2x)/6=27

X = 27 × 6 = 162

Statement B is superfluous.

8) (c)

from both statements,

T : S = 6 : 5

T : D = 3 : 2 = 6 : 4

∴ T : S : D = 6 : 5 : 4

Let the present age of Danish and Shivay be 4x and 5x Years respectively.

∴ (4x+6)/(5x+6)=6/7

30x + 36 = 28x + 42

2x = 6

X= 3

Hence, the age of shivay can be determined.

9) (b)

From statement B,

15 : 9 = 27 : x

15 × x = 9 × 27

X =  (9×27)/15=81/5  days

10) (e)

from statement A,

A + E = 64500

From statement B,

B + F = 52600

∴ C + D = (A + B + C + D + E + F) – (A + B + E + F)

Hence, the age of C cannot be determined.
